The tragic, indefensible death in Minneapolis of George Floyd – by uniformed police with a documented record of vicious, anti-black action – has evoked anguished cries for communal action. This national crisis must be acknowledged for what it is – a reflection of the bigotry and bias that contaminate our society. They are charges against the soul of America that must be faced and overcome. Every one of us must commit to accept the challenge – which can no longer be ignored – to give all our citizens the protections, rights and entitlements we demand for ourselves…
