WASHINGTON, D.C.As part of his ongoing effort to foster an environment for innovation and entrepreneurialism in New York’s 13th Congressional District, Congressman Charles B. Rangel will be hosting  the “Rangel Tech Expo & Talk” on May 16, 2104, from 4 – 8 PM at P.S. 154 Harriet Tubman on 250 West 127 Street Manhattan, NY 10027. Several Korean high-tech companies will participate in the event, which will also feature a presentation by John Suh, CEO of LegalZoom. Hundreds of local tech enthusiasts, students, and local business owners are expected to attend the event presented by Silicon Harlem.

“I’m very excited to host this event that will keep boosting the technological development of our District,” said Rangel. “The Tech Expo & Talk is also a wonderful opportunity to meet technology based Korean companies for potential mutual collaboration and networking.”

As an avid “googler” who totes around his iPad everywhere he goes, including to the House floor and Committee hearings, Rangel recognizes the value of technology. The “Rangel Tech Expo & Talk” is part of his work to help educate, inspire, and empower his constituents to utilize technology as a means to improve their lives and businesses.

“The spirit of creativity and ingenuity remains well alive in Harlem and the Bronx, which are the birthplaces of jazz and hiphop. I am passionate about building a better life and future for my constituents. I want the booming tech industry in New York City to expand and thrive in Uptown as well,” Rangel said.

To realize his vision to transform Harlem into the next Silicon Valley, Rangel has brought inspiring speakers to the “Tech Talk event with Charlie and His Friends,” produced by Silicon Harlem. He has previously hosted Andrea L. Taylor, Director of Microsoft’s Citizenship and Public Affairs; David Eun, EVP of the Open Innovation Center, Samsung Electronics; and he has also greeted Jack Dorsey during Square’s “Let’s Talk” event in Harlem.

The host committee of the “Rangel Tech Expo & Talk” is formed by Harlem Business Alliance Urban Cyberspace, Ember Media, The Web Academy, Harlem Co-Working Group, Stuart Films LLC, The New York Urban Leage, Caribbean Cultural Center, Digital Diveristy Network, InubateNYC, NAMD, Black Creatives, Blacks in Technology, Black Techies, and Urban Latino.
