Hundreds of Athletes Across the Nation to Compete at Harlem Gymnastics Invitational

Special Performance from Local Harlem Gymnasts Ages 3 to 18 at 4:00 p.m.

WHAT:  Wendy Hilliard Gymnastics Foundation (WHGF), a not-for-profit organization that provides free and low-cost quality gymnastics programs for urban youth, is proud to present the third Annual Harlem Gymnastics Invitational  featuring competition for Women’s Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline and Tumbling participants.  Youth athletes from all over the nation including almost 100 local Harlem students will compete. Extending the WHGF’s mission to bring the sport of gymnastics to urban and underserved communities, admission to the event will be FREE so friends and family of competitors as well as the Harlem community can come enjoy this exciting competition.  The event will take place at the historic Harlem Armory which is managed by the Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ).  The HCZ partners with the WHGF to provide gymnastics programs to their students as well as the community throughout the year.  The invitational will be held on Friday, February 19th through Sunday, February 21st.  Media are invited to attend on Sunday, February 21st from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

WHO:

  • More than 750 youth gymnasts from all over the nation including 100 local Harlem athletes.
  • Wendy Hilliard, Hall of Fame Rhythmic Gymnast, the first African-American to represent the U.S. in international competition, and a member of the Rhythmic Gymnastics National Team for a record-setting  nine times.
  • Wendy Hilliard Gymnastics Foundation coaches, instructors and Competition Team members.
